Digital Profiles and Footprint
A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. Websites that install cookies on your devices, apps and websites that use your geolocation, and social media that uses your likes, shares and comments to profile you are examples of a passive digital footprint.
A digital profile is the sum content about a person on the Internet. A digital profile can be composed of personal or professional information shared on public Websites posted personally or by others. One of the most effective ways to build a positive professional digital profile is through social media
Your digital profile is an asset to building your personal and professional brand. It shows not just who you are, but how you interact. An example of a digital profile would consist of a Instagram or Twitter account that is available to be seen by anyone, where for example a social media account could be one of the following, a professional account for a company, or an online personality, or maybe just a personal account where you post anything you want. Depending on what your digital profile consists of, it could lead to opportunities with companies just through how you present yourself online. For example, if someone had a photography account on Instagram where they show their work, a company in need of a photographer could reach out and offer the opportunity to work with them. It could also be used to promote their photography services to people, for things such as weddings or other events.
If the account was an online personality/influencer, the account would be structured around what the person does as an online personality/influencer. Examples are a comedian/character, or a beauty guru, or a content creator on YouTube, Twitch and more. Opportunity's that can come from these types of digital profiles could be sponsorships and brand deals, where they can show their products or services using their online presence to show their followers.
Digital profiles could also be used to show videos or photos that revolve around a certain group, community, culture, sport etc.
Existing Products of Digital Profiles -
Native Skate Store is a good example of using a digital profile to provide information on their company and the products they distribute in the UK and also internationally. They have amassed a following of nearly 32 thousand followers who regularly see their posts about new products and upcoming drops, as well as footage of skate videos of professionals to help sell their new products or their team riders, and each day they post a large amount of content of all these things. They have many story highlights which people can look through to see old products and many other things they have shown on their account. Their logo design is used across their digital profiles, Instagram and website, as well as some of their products. This creates a strong brand identity in both design and product areas.
They also have a Twitter account and Facebook where they show new products and upcoming product lines as they do with their instagram.
He is credited on the Legacy Skate Store website for his skateboarding photography with a large gallery being available to view.
From these digital profile examples, I have learned how to structure my websites and accounts correctly to show my work in a better light. For my own digital profiles, I want to make them easily navigated and have simple colour schemes.
