Media Inspirations

My main media inspiration is Quentin Tarantino for his unpredictable and interesting movies, from 'Pulp Fiction' to 'Kill Bill' and 'Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood'. He is a Film Director, a Screenwriter, a Producer, an Author, a Film Critic and Actor.

He has directed big films such as 'Pulp Fiction', the 'Kill Bill' series and 'Reservoir Dogs'. His style of filming, especially in 'Pulp Fiction' inspires me because of how unpredictable each scene is. With 'Pulp Fiction', there are 3 different stories being told at the same time. His way of story telling in films inspires me for how different it is to other films.

His career started while he was working at a Adult Movie Theatre where he later attended acting classes. He met several of his eventual collaborators while attending acting classes at James Best Theatre Company.

Throughout the 1980's, Quentin Tarantino had a number of jobs, where he was a recruiter in the aerospace industry, and most notably a job in Video Archives, which is was a video store in California at Manhattan Beach, in which he worked for five years. He then met Lawrence Bender at a Hollywood Party, and after meeting he had encouraged Tarantino to write a screenplay, his first attempt on a script was never published and soon abandoned. 1987, Tarantino co-wrote and directed his first film, called 'My Best Friend's Birthday',which was left uncompleted. But, the screenplay for the film was later formed into the basics for 'True Romance'.

In 1986, he was employed in his first Hollywood job, working with Roger Avary as production assistants on Dolph Lundgren's exercise video, 'Maximum Potential'.

He started his movie career in 1992, where he was hired by Robert Kurtzman to write the script for 'From Dusk Till Dawn', which was his first paid writing assignment. He had wrote the script in three-and-a-half weeks where Bender then forwarded it to director Monte Hellman. The funding for the film was secured from Richard N. Gladstein at Live Entertainment, which later became Aristan, but now known as Lionsgate.

Tarantino also had a production company with Micheal and Lawrence Bender, called 'A Band Apart Films' which was active from 1991 to 2006.

I am highly influenced by Tarantino and his work by the amount of detail and complexness with films such as 'Pulp Fiction' for an example, having a storyline split into pieces through the movie, letting the audience piece together the story themselves. His way of making movies and screen writing inspires me to make my future work more complex and gripping for the audience.

My reasonings for wanting to potentially go into the same media employment areas are because I am interested in screenplay, script writing, filming, editing, directing and also producing. I would especially like to work in editing or filming with such companies as Lionsgate, 20th Century Studios, Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema as they all collectively have well respected and loved films from over the years.
