Self Evaluation
Since beginning these activities I have gained much more knowledge regarding opportunities during and after college, creating a brand identity, having a good digital profile (social media accounts and websites etc.) and constructing a good portfolio to show to future employers.
Research into Future Options -
At the start of the unit, my initial thoughts for after college were to try and find a job in a media company as I had no intentions of continuing on to University. Since I started by researching opportunities in media after finishing college and moving into either the world of work to continuing in education. I also spoke about one of my media inspirations, who is Quentin Tarantino. From my research into future options in either education or a career, I have learned about the number of roles available in a media career, and how far you are able to progress from starting as a runner in any media company. Also, the apprenticeships available for those finishing college with a wide range of different roles.
Although I will not be continuing on to University after finishing college, I learned about the courses available for BTEC and A-Levels. Also, I found the top 5 Universities in the UK for studying media which are London School of Economics, Goldsmiths University of London, Cardiff University, King's College London and University of Leeds. Knowing that these are the top Universities for studying media gives me a good feeling that I know if needed I could apply for one of these Universities if my initial plan does not work.
Undertaking Networking Opportunities -
During my time at college, I have been involved in a number of talks and discussions with those working in media with lots of experience and students who previously attended the college and where it has lead them. From the talks, I have learned of the work and effort that is put in behind animation, short films and even photography projects, and this have given me a wider perspective on how complex but exciting the media industry is.
From my mock interview, with having previous experience with interviews and how they are usually structured, I already had some advantage with how to present myself to a future employer/client/University. But, I have learned from my mock interview that I need to work on not pausing for too long while answering a question and making sure to answer every question is as much detail as I can provide, also making sure to have a question prepared to ask regarding the company or the job itself.
Creating My Brand Identity -
Since creating my own brand identity, I now understand how important it is to develop suitable resources while creating your brand identity and also keeping your brand consistent in the sense of colour schemes and designs.
To do this, I used my CV and edited parts of my CV to make it more professional and show my newest experiences. Before doing so I researched into good CV examples to gather a better understanding of how to structure a good CV. Now, with the changes I made, I continue to use my CV for my job applications, which after the research and changes, have been more successful than they were previously.
To have a good brand identity, you need to have a good logo. So, before designing my logo I researched into the logos of well respected companies, which were 'KFC' and 'Coca Cola'. I chose these two specifically as they have had many logo changes since they were founded, but have stuck with their colour scheme or face of the brand since being founded. I then made my first logo design using only black and white for the colour scheme, which I also used for my final design, and gathered feedback on the logo to see where I could made improvements. From that feedback I created the final design of my logo which I have used for my show reel, business cards and my website. From gathering knowledge about big brands and their logos helped me to create the logo I now use for my brand identity.
